Mission Statement
The Simon Youth academy is a public, Alternative High School for out of school youth, and students at risk for dropping out of high school. The school is established as a partnership with The Union County Vocational-Technical Schools and The Simon Youth Foundation, with sponsorship from the Union county Workforce Development Board and the Board of Chosen Freeholders. The school educates students ages 16-21, accommodating varied levels of ability, learning styles, and credit status.
The school employs a blended learning model that allows the student to engage in monitored, self-paced virtual instruction, accompanied by a teacher to enhance the learning, provide supplemental activities, and assist with course progress. In addition, students receive traditional, individualize classroom instruction from our certified secondary teachers. Students receive a variety of services and programs designed to educate the "whole child" with a robust social emotional curriculum, culturally relevant pedagogy, life-skills, yoga/mediation, and job placement. Students who attend SYA are required to wear a uniform, and will receive a transportation stipend.
